I've never appreciated the complexity of Rothko but your description of taking the time to really look at his work and hold the "and" of all of the colors, marks, scrapes and soft edges does help me hold the paradox of all the sides of the complex human tragedy unfolding whether we see it or turn our eyes away.

Yes I did enjoy this letter. I found it both moving and very thought provoking. Thank you for taking me deep into what I may well have passed by with a lack of appreciation (Ref. Rothko). As to the conflict in Isreal and Gaza, my gut twists with pain and confusion for why people find it impossible to treat other people as human beings.
